This morning (19/2) myself and other peers helped portion meals for the Fare Share charity. Excess food from grocers and other large company’s such as Woolworths was repurposed to make delicious and nutrition packed meals that will reach those in and around Queensland who are experiencing food insecurity.

Today, we helped prepare meals for people around Australia who struggle with food insecurity. We did tasks such as weighing various foods to package, and actually packaging the food. This initiative is very important as not only is food waste reduced (food is donated from grocery stores and restaurants that would otherwise go to waste), but various Australians get to improve their quality of life with nutritious meals.

I poured chicken curry into storage packages that can hold food fresh for years.

While at FareShare, helped to make and pack meals to help with flood relief in North Queensland.

It was a very good experience to understand what fare share is all about. I was able to help label a lot of the meals which will then be sent out to people who need them.

I labelled sleeves with nutritional values, ingredients and product name.

I put labels on sachets to go over meals to provide for the community. It was enjoyable

Packed meals to send across to rural areas in queensland. We packed chicken based meals and rice pudding that will be frozen and sent to those areas.

I sealed meals for remote communities.

Great session weeding with friends this morning. Loved learning about the different plants, and picked up a bit of rubbish while at it. Photos picture the after shots.

It was a great start to the day getting into the King’s College Bushcare site. The morning was spent removing invasive weeds and rubbish. I did find part of someone’s fishing rod in the process.

Fantastic to start the year’s Bushcare program with over 40 college leaders this morning. The group walked the entire site identifying invasive species and native plants. Fantastic to again have the support of Jack Wade and Habitat Brisbane. A special treat also having Green Brand co-founder Cameron Tolmie along.
